How to make an Ambient Film Score | Live Electronic Music Tutorial 024

In episode 24 we compose and produce an ambient orchestral song that is well suited for Film Scoring and background music for media. We use Logic Pro X with only internal instruments and audio processor to do so.

We start the production of the song with a MIDI file, the file include a chord progression that inspire an emotional uplifting feeling. We then replicate the chord to new channels and layer new sounds. We start with a french horn and quickly build parts that fill in the space and bring forward the emotion. We then add multiple string sections to create an orchestra like effect, the fuller sound of the orchestra add complexity and we have to revise the mix as we go on with more elements to leave space for them to breath. We then add arpeggiated strings and a vocal choir to complete the orchestral elements.

Next some minimal drums are added to create a sense of timing and rhythm to the piece.
We then compose, edit and arrange a piano melody to finalize the piece.
